Born in 1989, Godwin Champs Namuyimba attended Kyambogo University in Kampala, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2017. He lives an works in Entebbe, Uganda.
Namuyimba uses the human form to explore identity in relation to race and individuality in the context of postcolonial Africa. With his large, colourful, and multi-faceted portraits, often of his friends and family, he aims to challenge stereotypical depictions of black people. First showing his works at Gallery Steinsland Berliner in Stockholm in 2019; he has since widely exhibited internationally – in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Brussels.
