Biography

Pieter van der Heyden (1551 – 1572)
Pieter van der Heyden (also Pieter Verheyden, Peter, and Peter Ameringius Mercinus) was a Dutch printmaker, working from 1551 on for the Antwerp publisher Hieronymus Cock. He produced engravings after famous painters such as Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Hans Bol, but also after his own designs ‒ portraits, religious and mythological scenes, usually signing ‘PME’, the initials of his Latinized name, Peter Mercinus.
